About Carra

The Mission of the alliance is to prevent, treat and cure rheumatic diseases in children and adolescents through fostering, facilitating and conducting high quality research.
The Vision is that for all children with rheumatic diseases, CARRA will
1. Perform clinical trials to define optimal care
2. Conduct research that will translate to prevention, better treatment, and cure
3. Investigate methods to improve quality of life in children
4. Promote a culture where all children will participate in research protocols
The Approach is for members to work together to capitalize on opportunities, to be proactive in developing a structure and a scientific agenda, and to work with potential funding sources to create a research alliance for the benefit of our patients.
Guiding Principles of CARRA:
1. The alliance will support studies with the potential to provide evidence upon which to base effective patient care for children with rheumatic disease.
2. Priority will be given to investigator-initiated protocols.
3. Scientific merit and impact are highest priorities for research study development.
4. Members will be committed to enrollment in research studies.
5. The operations of CARRA will be transparent and clearly articulated, including organizational structure, governance, protocol selection, protocol development, and publication mechanisms.
6. The leadership will be democratically elected.
7. The alliance and its members will be held to high standards of performance, accountability, and ethics.
8. The alliance will develop and provide resources to centers and investigators to facilitate maximal participation.
9. The alliance will encourage and support inclusion of epidemiologic and translational research in association with clinical studies.
10. The alliance will be strongly committed to data sharing and dissemination of results.
11. The members will be committed to developing protocols for all of the rheumatic diseases of childhood.
12. The alliance will respond rapidly to funding opportunities.
13. Foster relationships with individuals in other organizations in support of CARRA’s mission and vision
