COACHES

Coach Tobias Neal

CrossFit Instructor Certified, CrossFit Barbell Certified

I started training in CrossFit, about 3 years ago while serving in the United States Air Force. I had spent many years in the gym working the traditional bodybuilding split and had become disillusioned and very bored. I walked away from the gym, but kept eating like a bodybuilder until I topped out at 285lbs. My wife, and family became very concerned about my health and told me straight that I was becoming fat.

While walking through the office in the Air Force, a friend of mine was doing pushups on the floor. I asked him what he was doing and he told me that he was preparing for Pararescue, our SF in the AF. I asked him if he was doing anything special and he pointed me to this little known site at the time called CrossFit. My very first exposure was "Angie" which is 100 Pull-ups, 100 Push-ups, 100 Sit-ups, 100 Squats, for time. This sparked something deep within me and I wanted to give it a go. My first time was a disaster. I could barely do 20 reps a piece; that's how out-of-shape I was. I kept with it though and 6 months later weighed in at 225lbs. I had dropped 60 pounds and become super strong. Needless to say I was hooked.

As my time in the military came to an end, I wanted to share with others what CrossFit had done for me. So, I opened CrossFit Aspire in early 2008 and the rest is history. Over the last several years, I have learned so much from so many great sources. Our program has expanded and I have learned from many great coaches such as Greg Glassman, the founder of CrossFit, Mark Rippetoe of the book Starting Strength and many more, Mark Twight, Greg Everett, Robb Wolf, Mark Sisson, and many more. As we evolved our program and grew; we had to expand our gym and our name, our new name United Athletics Training Center speaks to breadth of experience we bring in to the gym and where we want to go in the future. Though we are no longer affiliated with CrossFit; we owe them a deep gratitude of thanks for setting us on the path. Thank you to Greg and Lauren Glassman, and Lisa Lugo for being great friends and outstanding mentors.

My philosophy is simple. I want to help be a catalyst in people's lives. I am a Coach not a personal trainer. My goal is to help you reach yours though sometimes you may not like me for it. I care deeply for what I do and for those that train in this gym. I seek to become better every year and to pass on that knowledge to my athletes. I look forward to being a part of your life.
